The third party syndrome
Without me and my brother around, mom and dad have been semi-empty nesters. They basically have to deal with each other everyday.
For the last week that I have been around, they were playing this new game for fun: Mom opines on something, dad disagrees, and of course they look to the the third party for affirmation. They seem to be having fun, coming up with newer and more intricate scenarios to "test" my preference.
"What do you say son?"
"What would you do in that scenario?"
"Do you think I'm right?"
"Do you think mom is wrong?"
I have a feeling that dad has been swallowing his pride to let things go when they were alone, now he is rebelling.
"Ha! you see? you see?"
"Listen to reason!"
"Ah Jai (Our son) is right!"
I can see that this escalation can get to a point where it stops being fun. But I'm saved by the bell, dad is leaving to see my nephew for a week, we'll have a cool down period.
