Franklin is not the Chinese's favorite

We walked by a Chinese dessert place that have been in SOHO area for as long as I remember.

Before there was an escalator, my dad would walk from Central up to the mid-levels rather than taking the bus. When I'm with him we would make stops at this place and drink "24 herbs" bitter tea. He insists that it cures all illness, really I just say I'm fine so I don't have to drink the darn bitter tea. (my dad is the worst combination: Chinese Catholic - it's not good for you unless it's bitter, you're not doing it right unless it hurts or requires great effort)

It won't be a Chinese dessert place if they don't serve turtle jelly. That's right, turtles, I have confirmed it. Since it fits in the "back facing the sky" requirement, the Chinese eat turtles for clearer skin, mouth sores, lost of sleep, diarea, and some infections.

Although I grew up in HK, I have never, ever, tried this dessert because it has "turtle" in it's name. However, no one was willing to tell me if that stuff prepared in the large pot was actually turtle, turtles where never in the pictures promoting the stuff. Well, more like I refused to believe it's made from turtles.

Now I have confirmed it, the shopkeeper laughed at me then showed me a turtle shell.
