HK treehuggers?
Mom took me to a car-less community on Lantau Island called Discovery Bay. It is a low-density, low-rise community where people get around on electric golf carts or walking, feels almost like a resort (they even have imported hot tennis instructors in white uniforms).
As it turns out the HK people did not like the dependency on fast ferries to commute back to the central business areas, so the place is full of gwai-lo's and expats from Japan or Korea. There is actually open space here, and it's not overcrowded.
If you think about it, a 20-25minute boat ride directly to the CBD isn't so bad compared to other
places to live, such as Stanley (another low density, semi remote area favored by expats). They even have wireless internet on the boats!
We live in the mid-levels, and it still takes 15minutes minimum to get to Central if you were running.
